Baby Sign Language - An early start at communication!
LHCA supports the community with a workshop for parents and child care providers looking to develop and strengthen a child's communication skills using American Sign Language. By using ASL with a child, parents will find the communication gap from birth to the typical development of speech-based language will narrow. A child's motor skills are not developed and equipped for speech-based language until approximately 18-24 months; however, with sign language, children as early as 6 months old begin to understand, respond and communicate.
Children who can communicate with their parents have a decreased level of stress. What would have been screaming, crying and temper tantrums, turn into fluid communication of the child's needs and wants. Parents will no longer need to simply guess what their child desires.
During our Baby Sign Language class, parents will learn the basic signs a baby will need to communicate. The class will instruct you on how to teach your baby sign language, what to recognize when your baby begins signing and how to foster growth of their signing abilities. From hello, milk, and potty to mom, dad and sleepy, once completed with the workshop, you will have the knowledge needed to enhance your baby's life with communication. Call for more information and to sign up. We look forward to teaching you how to develop a closer bond with your baby.
